OPC Foundation customer story

Helen builds a scalable energy data foundation with OPC UA and IoT-TICKET

13.05.2026

OPC Foundation has published a customer story about Helen and Wapice’s long-term collaboration in energy sector digitalisation.

The story describes how Helen uses OPC UA technology and Wapice’s IoT-TICKET platform to build a distributed, secure and data-driven energy infrastructure.

Helen’s energy system is becoming increasingly distributed as production shifts towards renewable and low-emission energy sources. At the same time, the number of production units, systems and data sources is growing. Reliable data collection, interoperability and cybersecurity are essential for monitoring, optimising and controlling energy assets efficiently.

OPC UA has been a perfect fit for Helen. It creates a secure and resilient framework that drives efficiency, scalability, and smarter energy operations.

Veli-Pekka Salo, Head of AI, Analytics & Automation, Wapice

At Helen, Wapice’s IoT-TICKET serves as a central data and integration platform. It collects data from different production units and makes it securely available to internal and external data users. The solution has been used in Helen’s critical OT environment since 2014, and its lifecycle updates have introduced a modern microservices architecture to support scalability, availability and future analytics and AI needs.

The customer story highlights the importance of open interfaces, high-quality data and sustainable architecture in the transformation of the energy market. As decision-making accelerates and automation increases, accurate, up-to-date and securely shared data becomes even more important.
