How Wapice helped Lindström turn Workwear Flex into a scalable service product

Lindström is a Finnish company that provides workwear and other textile solutions as a service across Europe and Asia and operates in 24 countries. Customers using shared workwear need a simple way to keep garments available, circulating efficiently and accessible in the right sizes when needed. To support this, Lindström developed Workwear Flex 2.0, a self-service solution for garment lending and returns.

To transform the concept into a scalable product, Lindström needed maintainable device software, a cloud-ready architecture and practical product engineering expertise. The project was organised into two parallel workstreams: industrial design and mechanics on one side, and the software and system foundation on the other. Wapice was selected to lead the device software development and supporting system architecture.

As development progressed, the collaboration expanded beyond software into electronics engineering, compliance support and coordination across multiple partners. This enabled Lindström to bring together the different capabilities required to move from a concept to a market-ready product.

Wapice’s software and electronics expertise, combined with their reliable and disciplined execution, played a critical role in bringing this product to life.

The new Workwear Flex platform was built on Microsoft Azure IoT Edge. Its container-based architecture allows software to be packaged, versioned and deployed consistently across a growing fleet of devices, while updates can be managed centrally from the cloud. The result is a standardised and scalable solution that supports efficient service operations and future growth.

“The big change is that the devices are now standardised across sites, with serial-production units and clear version control. This enables high-quality service deployment and support while also improving the customer experience,” says Leena Peltola from Lindström’s Workwear Services team.

“Wapice’s software and electronics expertise, combined with their reliable and disciplined execution, played a critical role in bringing this product to life,” adds Sini Rajala, Head of IT for Customer Solutions at Lindström.
