The City of Tampere chose Wapice Oy as the service provider for the IoT platform, outdoor lighting control system and urban environment sensing. The estimated total value of the acquisition is EUR 4.4 million during a ten-year contract period. The goal is to start implementation in early 2021.
Wapice cooperates with C2 SmartLight Oy and Digita Oy in delivering the acquisition. The efficient C2 SmartCity™ solution by C2 SmartLight implements lighting control. The data transmission relies on Digita’s nationwide IoT network based on LoRaWAN wireless technology. Wapice’s IoT-TICKET builds a flexible cloud-based entity with the C2 SmartLight control system and Digita’s IoT network.
– At Wapice, we are excited to develop smart cities and explore the opportunities brought by digitalization with our IoT platform, says Pasi Tuominen, CEO of Wapice.
The acquisition includes an IoT platform and utilizes an outdoor lighting control system as well as urban environment sensing. The IoT platform makes it possible to automate operations, predict maintenance needs, and obtain more accurate information to support planning, decision-making, and management. Smarter control of outdoor lighting will achieve cost savings and reduce CO2 emissions, as well as improve the quality of services provided to citizens.
The rapidly evolving features of a smart city are increasingly reflected in concrete improvements in the city’s operations and in the diversification of services. – Security, efficiency and usability will be improved in many different ways. We are moving towards an interactive environment where sensed artificial intelligence even communicates with individuals, influencing energy consumption, the effectiveness of information and the adaptation of the environment as needed, Tuominen continues.
– The value of today’s solutions is best understood by those who have looked further into the future. Tampere is Finland’s largest smart city project to date and will pave the way in many ways. It is great for us to be involved in building a solution that contributes to enabling ecologically sustainable change and access to carbon neutrality goals, says Petri Laitinen, Executive Vice President of C2 SmartLight.
– We are very pleased to join the competent partners Wapice and C2 SmartLight in the Tampere smart city project. In general, the digitization of urban operations is increasing measurement needs, and Digita offers a nationwide IoT network based on LoRaWAN technology for use in cities and sparsely populated areas. Thanks to a comprehensive and 24/7/365 maintained network, monitoring and controlling various networked devices is cost-effective and simple without the need for complex local area network or gateway solutions in cities’ desired locations,” says Mika Flinck, Sales Director of Digita’s IoT business.
