What is working life like at Wapice?

Culture

Do you want to make things happen?

At Wapice, we are truly doers. We support our clients with a practical approach, devising solutions even for the most challenging problems. We are laid-back yet genuine top professionals, driven by technology, innovation, and teamwork. Titles don’t hold much weight for us – what matters is getting things done and ensuring our clients are satisfied.

We also believe in the long-term development of our company, and we’re not easily shaken by economic fluctuations. We take pride in the fact that we’ve experienced steady growth throughout our history and can provide our experts with a stable environment to innovate and grow their skills.

Our culture is built on trust, well-being, and flexibility. In practice, this means offering a comprehensive employee benefits package and striving to be as accommodating as possible as an employer. Our skilled professionals are the best experts in their own work, and we are committed to providing them with the optimal conditions to thrive and develop in their careers.

The chance to have an impact

We believe that opportunities to make an impact and continuous development are key to the success and satisfaction of our employees. Every employee has the opportunity and freedom to influence how our company operates and evolves. At Wapice, every voice matters, and we strive to create an environment where employees can bring forward their ideas and participate in shaping the future of the company.

We offer opportunities for professional growth, learning, and continuous development of skills through career paths, mentoring programs, workshops, certifications, tech talks, and other active knowledge sharing. At Wapice, growth is not just an opportunity – it’s a part of our work culture.

A family-friendly workplace that supports different life situations.

We believe that work-life balance is key to a sustainable work life. We understand that life happens – whether it’s (juggling??) busy years, children, hobbies, caring for aging parents, or the desire for a lighter daily routine, we approach all life situations with understanding. We are also happy to discuss the possibility of shortened working hours.

The value we provide to our customers is based on the well-being and expertise of our people, which is why we prioritize offering good working conditions. We provide our employees with several additional benefits compared to the national collective agreement for the IT services sector.

Examples of flexibility in our collective agreement:

  • Paid Leave We offer paid leave for unexpected family situations that require your presence. You will also receive paid leave on your moving day and for the funeral of a close relative. Military reserve training is compensated with regular pay.
  • Additional Leave We aim to offer unpaid leave for up to 4 weeks if you have not yet accrued enough vacation days.
  • Extended Paid Parental Leave 76 working days for the birthing parent and 36 working days for the non-birthing parent.
  • Working Hours Flexible working hours and a time bank provide flexibility to balance work and everyday life.

Our strengths as seen by our employees

“Definitely the company culture, flexibility, and respect between people regardless of titles. Here, you can be yourself, and flexibility is available when needed for family, studies, or other reasons.”

“Flat hierarchy and the freedom to get things done. Trust in employees.”

“Flexibility, people-oriented approach, fairness, and great and diverse benefits.”

“Hands-on attitude, flat hierarchy, community spirit, flexibility, broad technological foundation, and through that, a very exceptional perspective on corporate IT development.”

“Diverse experts to contact if and when support is needed.”

“We trust our employees, and we don’t have strict corporate rules. For example, everyone manages their own laptop, and we have a lot of freedom.”

“Trust in people, not many unnecessary IT restrictions, competitive salary, great benefits, trips, and parties. Opportunities to develop in different technologies.”

“Great team spirit!”

“A good work environment and people around who care about each other.”

Career story

Anna-Kaisa, Project Manager

I originally grew up on a farm in Isokyrö. I graduated as an engineer from Vaasa University of Applied Sciences, where I studied electronics and information technology. Alongside my studies, I started working as a software designer at Wapice, where my career began in 2000. My engineering thesis focused on an internet-based ordering tool, which opened the door to the world of programming. Soon, I was responsible for my first project, a turning point in my career toward becoming a project manager.

While working, I continued my studies to become an industrial economist at the University of Vaasa and later completed a Master’s degree in Technology Competence Management (YAMK) in Seinäjoki. Over the years, both Wapice and my own family have grown. Wapice has been flexible in balancing work and family life and has offered opportunities for development: I’ve had the chance to serve as a team leader, project manager, and office manager. I became a certified Scrum Master and IPMA C-level project manager and have mentored new project managers.

During my career, I have focused on customer projects, mass-customizable products, and leadership. My work has been diverse and rewarding, combining problem-solving, innovation, and teamwork. Wapice has always provided excellent resources, a quality system, and supportive colleagues. These have made both leading projects and working within them fulfilling, and I have never felt alone. Every day is different, and Wapice has provided a fantastic environment for learning and growth.

Career story

Lauri, Software Designer

My career at Wapice began in the spring of 2016 when I started a summer job at the company’s Tampere office in Hervanta. At the time, I was studying at Tampere University of Technology (TTY) in the automation engineering program, with a major in factory automation and industrial informatics and a minor in embedded systems. I became interested in Wapice after exploring the company’s website and meeting employees in person at TTY’s career fair. I was particularly inspired by Wapice’s diverse technological solutions and expertise in embedded systems. The company’s IoT-TICKET also caught my attention, and my open application in early 2016 led to a summer job and eventually to a permanent position following my master’s thesis project.

At Wapice, my work has focused on IoT-TICKET, where I have developed and tested software for embedded systems. My master’s thesis was also related to this product. Through this work, I have gained extensive knowledge of embedded systems, communication technologies, and software development. I have had the opportunity to collaborate with experienced professionals, which has helped me enhance my skills and deepen my understanding of the industry’s technologies.
